Seidemolerei

Silk painting is an ancient technique that originated in China, just like silk itself. Several centuries ago, it arrived in France, where it flourished before falling into obscurity due to the complexity of its production and processing.

A few decades ago, dyes suitable even for beginners were developed, and the technique has come back into fashion. Whether using the gutta, wax, monotype, salt or pleating techniques, the colour is applied to the silk using either a paintbrush or a brush. Finally, the fabric is set and ready to wear.

Materials required: Silk, bobbin frames, steam-fixable dyes, petrol-soluble gutta, brushes of various sizes.
